Nervous-System Regulation Exercises: Where to Start
A small practice, a clear stopping point and a check-in afterward are more useful than a long list of exercises.

Start by noticing your energy, attention and contact with the room. These are observations, not a diagnosis. Pick one manageable experiment rather than attempting several exercises at once.
An external starting point
Let your eyes rest on a familiar object, or notice your feet touching the floor. Try a brief pause and ask whether it feels supportive, neutral or uncomfortable. External orientation can be an alternative when focusing on your breath feels distressing.
When movement feels more appropriate
If you feel low in energy, consider a comfortable change of position or a few gentle steps, within your physical limits. You do not need to force alertness or push through discomfort.
Re-check before continuing
Stop if distress, dizziness, pain or concerning symptoms increase. Record what you tried and what you noticed. No exercise is guaranteed to help; persistent or concerning symptoms deserve professional assessment.
